Subject: Sailing Group Begins 29th Racing Season

Under sunny skies and with a brisk breeze, the Lucerne-In-Maine Yacht Racing Union, (LIMYRU), began it's 29th racing season on Sunday, June 29, 2003 on Philip's Lake, Dedham.

Along with the near perfect sailing conditions, the race featured the closest finish in the history of the club. In the planning hull class, only 2 seconds separated the first 3 boats, with Harry Peddie, sailing an Albacore 15 edging out Thom Johnston's Lightning, with Commodore Dick Laferte aboard, and Doug Craib's JY-15. In the multi hull class, it was Mark Eggleton's Hobie-16 beating Chuck McClead and Neil Comins, who were also sailing Hobie-16's.

LIMYRU has a 10 race season, for all classes of sailboats, on Sunday afternoons on Philip's Lake, Dedham. New members and guests are always welcome. For more information, go to www.limyru.com

For those of you who missed yesterday's race you missed a great one! The finish was so close! The Red Lightning took a play from the "Denis Connor" playbook and was on a starboard tact to the finish line so that Harry's Albacore and Doug's JY-15, who were both on port tacts, had to give way to the Lightning. Two seconds is what separated the 3 boats! Doug Kell Sr. picked a heck of a day to do the committee boat! Besides winning the multi hull race, Mark Eggleton gave a sailing demonstration by sailing onto and up his ramp and cradle! Neat sailing, Mark.

Race # 2 is next Sunday. Let's get those boats in the water and racing. Try to get new members or guests to come race with us.
