August 29,2000 Dear friends in sailing, With a forecast of increasing winds to 15 mph, a great course by the committee Merrill, two scheduled races, and a plethora of boats, everything looked good for a wonderful sailing afternoon. Unfortunately, the wind did the "all too usual" Lucerne turn-about and turned a one hour race into a nearly two for many of us, forcing a wise postponement of the second race by the Tom Johnston committee to the last race weekend. The plan is to start Saturday’s race at 1:00, sail a second and final race immediately after, and follow with the awards picnic, charcoal provided. Be prepared for shortened races if it looks like uncooperative wind conditions. We would like to rap up the sailing by 3:00 and put on the feedbag from there. A reminder to all first place finishers from last year to bring their large trophies and history plaques. If you are a previous winner in the displacement hull, multi-hull, or season handicap in the last six or seven years, put on your thinking cap and help us update the tophies in those categories. Highlights for race 8:
See you on the water, Mike | |
