Dear Friends in Sailing,
The fourth race of the season gave us the near complete scenic tour of
the lake. The race committee of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Bush held nothing back
in making it one of our most demanding races yet. Well done. I'm sure
before the race the cat sailors were labeling the committee as Ivan "the
Terrible" with all of the demands they put on upwind sailing. Still,
when all was said and done, our group of LIMYRU cat sailors acquitted
themselves very well indeed proving again as a group they may be our
strongest class. The only parts of the lake not visited were elephant
rock and the dam at the end of the narrows. Have we set a precedent for
all future race committees to provide 90% of the camp owners a close up
view of the race?
Race highlights:
- Lots of lead changes throughout the race with "everyone" in contention
going into the final leg.
- Shore line snake run by a 19 foot lightning with Tom Johnston and crew
on the third leg, at times just feet from shore.
- Mark and Janet sailing up wind like they had two Lasers joined together
by a trampoline, in and around moored boats and floats to finish as one
of the "top cats".
- The Harry Peddie Albacore with a "come from behind" nose out finish over
the Red (used to be white) Lightning at a very congested finish line.
- Great overall race by Doug Kell Jr. in his first effort of the
season. Maybe the rest of us are sailing too much.
- Great single-handed efforts on a very gusty final upwind leg by Neil
Cummins, Tom Davis and Doug Kell.
Announcements:
1. Keep doing a good job of staying away from the starting and finish
lines when you're not racing.
2. Remember race starting colors are: yellow-warning, white-displacement,
blue-planing , red-multihulls with 5 minutes between each.
3. MOST IMPORTANTLY, ICE CREAM SOCIAL AT THE KELLS FOLLOWING THIS WEEK'S
RACE NUMBER 5. Anyone not in attendance is put on the short list for
next year's office positions.
See you on the water,
Mike |
