July 2, 2000

Dear friends in sailing:

Our first race picked up where last year’s race #10 left off with heavy wind conditions resulting in breakdowns and capsizes. It’s a credit to our sailors that there were but two DNF’s.

Look out last year’s Portsmouth and planing hull champ Doug Craib. We have a new "big dog" on the beach: new member Harry Peddie in his red Albacore bested Doug at the finish to place just behind the "new Red Lightning". It seems as though red is the color of choice for the top mono hull actual this year in the first race.

Thanks to excellent pin placements by the committee boat volunteers, Mr. and Mrs. Chuck McClead, no one was ever "out" of the race with options galore on each and every leg. Sorry, Doug Kell Sr., one of them was not to clutter up the lake with your knee pads and hats in hopes that boats on the course would be diverted from the best course to a mark; though it seemed to work in Kim Mumme’s case. Where were you headed on the fourth leg?

Warren A. was there with all equipment in tact, including a yellow hat and blue knee pads. Barry C. took it easy on the rest of us and chose to retire before the race with new sail equipment problems. Need a sewing lesson anyone?

Several Items to be addressed:

- A few outstanding dues to be paid.

- The starting procedure that we ended the year with was displacement hulls starting at five minute horn, planing hulls at 10 minute horn, and cats at 15 minutes after the white flag. The next race (#2) will start that way.

- If anyone knows of any club member having trouble with getting around on our web page, PLEASE contact Doug Kell Jr, or me. Except for those of you that designate "SNAILMAIL" the rest of us are committed to LIMYRU.COM.

- We need beaching for a potential member with a catamaran as well as mooring space. Anyone interested in helping out, let me know.

Tip of the week: Never break in new equipment on the day of a race.

See you on the water,

Mike Connolly
