Dear Friends in Sailing,

Spread the word if you’re a frequent visitor to the LIMYRU web page site. Our final race is this Saturday at 1 o’clock. The awards picnic will follow at the beach club. BYOF(food) with the Kells supplying the charcoal. Arrival time is in the 3:30 to 4:00 range. Hopefully, those of you with permanent awards plaques have had them updated and will bring them to the banquet. Look forward to seeing all of you there.

Race #9 highlights:

- If you showed up, you deserve a second place finish at least, with a first going to anyone that finished. Small craft warnings to a LIMYRU sailor means: "warning, hurry up and get your small craft rigged before the wind drops."

- Outstanding committee boat work in the really tough conditions by Joe and Emily Taylor.

- Polly and Bill Barron and Cliff Eames with great first legs , showing the rest of us that the left side is the place to be.

- Pre-race gymnastics by Ivan Bush and Ian Cohen. (just checking my bottom for lake slime, Dad)

- Death roll capsize down wind by Doug Craib with a score of 8.5 for degree of difficulty and a 9 for execution.

- Barry Cohen’s crew going blind at the jibe mark. Sorry Barry, the boom hit me so hard, it knocked the lenses out of my glasses; they should now be somewhere on the bottom marking the spot of last year’s sinking of the Lightning.

- Polly and Bill doing a little gunwale grabbing to save their boat at a treacherous first mark and making a great come from behind win in the displacement division over Cliff Eames who was tough to catch for four legs.

- A capsize at the fourth mark took Tom Davis out of the race. I don’t know how he kept it upright that long by himself under full sail.

- Great overall race by Doug Merrill to capture first actual with a nail biting finish over Bob and Scott Fraser. It seems the wilder the conditions, the better the "Merrill Cat".

- A very close finish between Barry and Son with Dad eking out a first mono hull over ever-improving Ian. (Yes, you can have dinner tonight, Son)

- Great jobs by Ivan, Dougs Kell and Craib who chose this of all races to singlehand the normally overpowered JY’s just to finish the race in one piece.

- Mark and Janet squeaking by the "Meagher cat", just to to keep things interesting for the Actual and Portsmouth, going into the final race.

Look forward to seeing EVERYONE (Ivan you’re excused, see you later in the fall) for the final race. All categories are still in the air, with many sailors still in contention.

Mike
