September 3, 2005 - Race 10 Business Meeting Awards
A busy day at the lake was highlighted by a season-ending race under
almost ideal conditions. An outstanding course, set up by Chuck and
Valerie McClead, took advantage of a steady medium wind and provided
close finishes as the entire fleet finished within a 25 minute block of
time.
With Bob and Scott Fraser, Mike and Andy Meagher, and Mark and Janet on
the Eggleton cat, a photo finish in the cat fleet was indeed a family
affair. The planing hulls were highlighted by the best finish of the
year for the Lightning crewed by John Bragg and Dick Laferty as they
squeezed across the finish line just seconds ahead of the always
dependable Peddie Albacore with Harry and Josh. Yours truly with crew
Warren (I'm looking for a new Laser hull) Adair had an extended duel
that lasted the entire race with Bernie Gaff and a crew to be named
later. Along with Joe Guaraldo in his JY-14 the three of us finished in
very close fashion stretching the committee boat crew to its limits.
With a planned 2 P.M. start, Doug Kell started well behind the rest of
the fleet for the 1 P.M. race.
Following the race, we assembled at the beach club for the annual
picnic and awards get-together. Appetizers were graciously provided by
the Peddie's, while Mark Eggelton showed off his "grill skills."
The following awards were presented:
Season Handicap - Mike Meagher (1st), Bob Fraser (2nd), Harry Peddie
(3rd)
Actual Finish Displacement - Joe Guaraldo (1st), Doug Kell (2nd)
Actual Finish Planing Hull - Harry Peddie (1st), Tom Johnston (2nd),
Barry Cohen (3rd)
Actual Finish Multihull - Mark Eggleton (1st), Bob Fraser (2nd), Mike
Meagher (3rd)
Portsmouth Handicap - Harry Peddie (1st), Mark Eggleton (2nd), Bob
Fraser (3rd)

Open dates may be filled by any member by contacting me at any time.
- Course ideas will be placed in booklet form and kept on the committee
boat for reference. Anyone interested in preparing the booklet, let me
know.
- Late race arrivals may start with other fleets or at the discretion
of the committee boat, in a fleet of their own.
- Boat burgee numbers should be more prominently displayed. Contact
Scott Fraser for help in getting the appropriate vinyl numbers,
preferably "sail number" size.
- After finishing races, it is advised to check-in with the committee
boat and verify your time.
- Committee boat will run additional races on fast course days for any
or all fleets with the results counting in the final standings.
- Doug Kell Jr. will look into providing a picture book of members and
their boats to help identification during races.
- Purser's report by Chuck McClead revealed we are financially sound,
due in most part to the volunteerism and generosity of its membership.
- Mark Eggleton lead us in a moment of silence in remembrance of the
passing of Charlie Lawson, beach club manager and one of LIMYRU's
greatest friends.
- Mark E. addressed membership retention, recruitment and race
participation. If you are a lake resident and can provide shore and/or
mooring space for potential racers, please let Mark know so he can
prepare a discussion on the topic for our spring meeting.
- Our best goes out to Polly Barron and wishes for a speedy and complete
recovery. Polly is one of our senior and most ardent supporters and we
missed her and Bill on the water this year.
Thank you all for a great year. As we look forward to next year,
e-mail any member of the executive committee with ideas to keep LIMYRU
an important part of our sailing lives that we can discuss at our late
winter executive and spring membership meetings.
Sincerely,
Mike Connolly (Commodore)
Mark Eggleton (Vice -commodore)
Chuck McClead (Bosun/purser)
Bob Fraser (Master-at-arms)
